Biography
A native Californian, Sonya Edwards, began exploring the art of
beaded jewelry and discovered a new creativity that turned into a professional adventure in 2004. Inspired by Helen Banes,
she entered her first fiber art show at the Highland Arts Center in Weaverville, California. Since then, she has attracted
many collectors of her distinctive and beautiful beaded jewelry.
In addition, Sonya is an accomplished mandolinist and songwriter who was a member of the bands
Playin' Hooky and Sidekick Bluegrass Band.
Today, Sonya travels as much as she can. She finds inspiration in nature, textile patterns such
as Persian carpets, architecture and old books. She has been studying the art of jewelry design since 2004 and is an editor
for jewelry making instructions. Sonya is most inspired by jewelry designed by Helen Banes who's work is now in the Smithsonian.
